Dear Friends,
As a result of the corona virus, the clinic is facing unparalleled challenges. Dr. Rhodes was without any p.p.e. (personal protective equipment) for the staff. She finally managed to acquire some disposable gloves, but I fear that these alone will not be sufficient to maintain a safe environment for both staff and patients. As of today, the clinic is open.
The more immediate problem for people is food, and, for some, shelter. The price of food is rocketing, and it is becoming harder to find fewer perishable items. As the prospect of quarantine looms large people are trying to stock up on food items such as rice, pasta, beans, canned tomatoes, canned tuna, dried fish etc. to see them through the days ahead. Of course, hygienic items are also important but in short supply.
The charitable aims of JFPCH are primarily support of the clinic, but also « for the good of the people of Haiti. » The directors have agreed to contribute some monies to provide relief, sadly probably only a drop in the ocean, for those experiencing these new immediate problems.
If you wish to help, we would be most grateful for your donations. At this time, as the whole world is focusing on national and individual safety, we must also keep the light of hope shining for the poorest of the poor.
God Bless you,
Father Russell Wright
